Obama, say No to commercial whaling
OK, I am hijacking the blog a little here… but this is very important to me and ultimately all of our children.
The Obama Administration is proposing a deal that would re-open commercial whaling for the first time in over two decades. President Obama has been backing away from his promise to save the whales and instead moving towards a deal that would benefit corrupt business ventures.
Please consider taking action on the greenpeace site here.

They also ask for photos to be submitted to be delivered to the White House – this is Leilani’s and my contribution (her text).
This document (pdf) describes the greenpeece photo action.

Click to give
I really like this group of websites, Children’s Health site as part of the Animal Rescue site
With a simple click you can give a cup of food to the world’s hungry, to date, more than 300 million visitors to the Hunger Site have given more than 671 million cups of staple food.
And in their menubar at the top you can see many more interesting ways to help and it won’t cost you more that 1 minute for all of them.

School Gardens Across America Initiative
Teacher Liselle and her class are planting seeds! The kids are so excited.
I recently read about The Who Farm’s School Gardens Across America Initiative, and I really, wholeheartedly think that this is a great cause, and should definitely start in preschools. Leilani recently developed a real interest in gardening not just harvesting her strawberries and herbs, but planting, weeding and watering, and I think it could be a great project at our school too. I quote below from an email I received.
First Lady Michelle Obama has credited her small vegetable garden at the White House as the initial inspiration for all her good food work and her new Let’s Move initiative. But there’s still LOTS more to be done, and most schools in America are still garden-less.
This March 2010, as spring fast approaches and we all yearn to plant new seeds, please join me to support “Good Food For All Kids: A Garden at Every School.” Simply by casting your vote for the principle of Universal School Gardens in the 2010 Ideas for Change in America contest sponsored by Change.org, you can help move this idea one important step closer from inspiration to reality. (The 10 most popular winning ideas will be transformed into national grassroots social change campaigns, and Change.org will reach out directly to engage relevant decision-makers.) Then after you vote for universal school gardens in the contest, please join us in taking the next step toward achieving this ambitious goal by joining the new “School Gardens Across America” group at Facebook!
By taking the action of planting sustainable food gardens at schools throughout America, we can ensure that all children have the opportunity to benefit from eating more fresh healthy foods. A well-planned edible schoolyard can even supply a significant portion of a school’s daily food needs. To learn more about the many benefits of school gardens, read the short essay “Playing to Win Universal School Gardens,” published March 1st, 2010 at www.dcfoodforall.com.

The Animals Save The Planet!!!
Well… if they don’t I hope our kids will.
I think the humor in these is tailored to 3-4 year olds. Leilani watched the first one about a dozen times and almost rolled on the floor laughing. She watched the rest too quite a few times, and she understood most of them.
Anyway… they really, really get the environmental message across to kids. Don’t watch the first one if you are easily offended or can’t stand body-function humor… otherwise, click on the cow icon below.
