Anne Markevich
Teacher - 3 Year Old Class
My name is Anne Markevich. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Russian immigrant parents, who were very loving and nurturing. My family immigrated to the United States-Los Angeles, CA, when I was 11-years-old. In Los Angeles, I was part of a large Russian emigre community. There, I seriously started leaning about and appreciating my culture and traditions. In school, I was active in a band and choir for several years. As a result of this exposure, I have been actively involved in church a choirs, was a member of a Russian Folk Singing Group and continue to sing in my church choir to this day. I also volunteer at the yearly Russian Festival.
I enjoy many hobbies including traveling, photography, hiking, reading, cooking and wine tasting. I caught the travel bug in my youth, when I had the opportunity to take a 6-week trip with a group of young people of various backgrounds. We visited various European countries as well as Jerusalem and its surrounding cities. I found this trip to be extremely exhilarating and an incredible learning experience.
Prior to working with children, I held various jobs in the medical field. Frustrated by the changes resulting from HMO's, I found this field to be unfulfilling. After taking time off to have a family (two sons - ages 22 and 19), I was able to continue pursuing my higher education. As children have always been my passion I decided to finish my undergraduate studies in Child Development. Currently I'm completing my Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis on Early Child Education. This Program has enabled me to take on the role of teacher/researcher, which I find myself enjoying immensely!
I have been teaching pre-kindergarten children for three years. I am well aware of the numerous aspects of a preschooler's development, especially their cognitive and social development, and also feel that children learn a tremendous amount through play and developmentally appropriate preschool activities. I enjoy seeing the children's cognitive and social development blossom in front of my eyes.
My academic and occupational endeavors in this field have motivated me to continue learning new ways to interest young children in education through play, especially mathematics.
I look forward to teaching your child(ren) this academic year as well as learning with them.
